Stephen Ministry

One-On-One Care giving - PHUMC established the Stephen Ministry in 1995. The Stephen Ministry provides one-on-one Christian care to those who face some personal crisis, from loss of a loved one to loss of a job--or any number of other crises that may arise.

Trained To Provide Care - Stephen Ministers must complete 50 hours of training before serving in this ministry. The training focuses on Christ-centered care giving, using the tools of prayer and scripture. All active Stephen Ministers must attend Continuing Education and Group Supervision twice each month to ensure that their Christian care giving skills are at their best.

Healing Services - Stephen Ministers provide opportunities for prayer support through Healing Services offered as a part of Friday evening and Sunday morning worship, and occasionally at St Vincent's Infirmary.

 

I get by with a little help from my friends... Remember the Beatles song? We all need a concerned caring friend at difficult times in our lives. A Stephen Minister can listen and care for you or for someone you know who is going through a tough time... without judging or pushing someone to snap out of it or just get better. 

Stephen Ministers are trained... Ready? Set? Minister!. Riding a bike, using a new computer program... training is important whenever anyone learns a new skill. Training is important in Stephen Ministry too. Before Stephen leaders and ministers begin their work, they go through 50 hours of training. When they start their official ministry, they’re ready.
