Raney Series

Watch here for information about the 2008 Raney Preaching Series.

The 2007 series was a great event with a record number of DVD copy orders of Rev. Hudson's sermons. We sold out of his books and have ordered more. Our church was blessed by Rev. Hudson's messages. Information from the 2007 series is below.

Raney Series: May 4-6, 2007 with South African Pastor

Rev. Trevor Hudson, Methodist minister, author, pastoral therapist and retreat leader in South Africa, will be our guest for the 2007 T.J. & Inez Raney Preaching Series. Plan now to join us for worship services Friday at 6 p.m.; Saturday at 11 a.m., followed by a noon luncheon; Sunday at 8:15 or 10:30 a.m. and again at 6 p.m. following Mayfest.

A luncheon in the Great Hall will follow the 11a.m. Saturday worship service. To make a lunch reservation contact Cindy Bowden at 978-0517 or cbowden@phumc.com

"The Transforming Way of Discipleship" is the theme for the 2007 Raney Preaching Series with Rev. Trevor Hudson, a Methodist pastor and writer from South Africa, who was one of the outstanding preachers at the World Methodist Conference in Seoul, Korea, last summer.

Rev. Hudson, pastor of Northfield Methodist Church in Benoni, just outside Johannesburg, has been called one of God’s great gifts to the ecumenical church whose ministry has been shaped by the South African experience in recent years.

Two of his books, A Mile in My Shoes, about the Christian as pilgrim, and The Serenity Prayer, about use of the prayer in daily life, are currently being used in Lenten studies at PHUMC.

In a change from past scheduling, the Preaching Series will take place on Friday evening, Saturday morning, Sunday morning and conclude on Sunday evening.

Rev. Hudson’s sermons are entitled:

"Transforming Presence – Water Into Wine"

"Transforming Pilgrimage – Up and Down the Mountain"

"Transforming Ministry – Encounter with the Gardner"

"Transforming Power – Come Out of the Tomb"

We are so grateful to the Raney family for the generous gift that has provided outstanding preachers for more than 50 years to our church and state.

ABOUT TREVOR HUDSON He is married to Debbie and together they are the parents of Joni and Mark.  He has been in the Methodist ministry for the past 30-odd years, spending most of this time in and around Johannesburg.  Presently, he is part of the pastoral team at Northfield Methodist Church in Benoni.  He also travels widely doing conferences, retreats and workshops in a number of diverse settings.  He has written nine books, including Journey of the Spirit which was awarded Best Christian Book of the Year in 2003.  His most recent book, Listen to the Groans will be released in June later this year.  Upper Room has also just re-published Compassionate Caring under a new title “A Mile In My Shoes”, a resource for small groups called “The Way Of Transforming Discipleship” and will be publishing “One Day At A Time” for a North American audience in October.   Much of his ministry is shaped by two passions.  On the one hand, to help ordinary Christ-followers discover a compassionate, down-to-earth and life-giving spirituality.  On the other hand, to build the kind of faith-community that takes seriously the suffering of people in the surrounding community.  His interests include watching sports, walking, discovering new places, reading and a host of other things that he doesn’t get time to do!  His main joy in life is hanging out with his family at the local Italian restaurant, enjoying Arrabiata fettucini!
