Why explore PHUMC?
We know that visiting or becoming a part of a new church can be intimidating – from practical questions related to childcare and parking, to deep spiritual questions concerning what we believe, how we worship, and what we expect of our members. We hope this site will begin to give you the answers you are looking for.
We are a church that is committed, by the grace of God, to loving the world in the Spirit of Jesus. We want to join you in searching for the God that we believe has always been seeking us!
Parking
A two level parking deck was added to our church campus in 2005. The lower-level entrance is on Lee Street with access to the labyrinth and Wesley Hall. The top-level entrance is on Woodlawn Street with access to the Children’s Ministry and Youth Ministry areas.
Parking on Woodlawn Street in the older lot across from the Sanctuary is reserved on Sunday mornings for guests, older adults, those with physical limitations, and anyone who cannot walk far. Church members who are able to walk far are asked to park on the street away from the church on Sunday mornings if possible.
Childcare
Sunday School, 9:15 to 10:15 a.m., provides a strong base for each child’s Christian education, age six months to 5th-grade. Sunday classes are in the Norma Story Children’s Building, which also houses nurseries.
Paid staff manages four nurseries on Sunday mornings for:
- newborn through 6 months (Nursery I)
- 6 months, sitting up well and starting to crawl (Nursery II)
- 12-to-18-months, walking (toddler I)
- 18 months and older (Toddler II)
Children’s Church, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., is an alternative worship service for two-to-four-year-olds. Classes meet in appropriate rooms, go to Chapel for worship experiences, and then return to classrooms for activities related to daily lessons.

Traditional Worship in Sanctuary
Fridays at 6 p.m.
Sundays at 8:15, 10:30 a.m.
Our traditional services in the sanctuary offer classical worship that glorifies God and strengthens the people of God through hymns, liturgies, corporate prayers, and sermons that impact the heart and engage the head. The primary preacher for these services is our Senior Pastor, Rev. Britt Skarda.
“New Heights” Contemporary Worship in Wesley Hall
Sundays at 10:30 a.m.
Our contemporary service in Wesley Hall offers a more casual atmosphere that incorporates praise songs and hymns, with preaching that is conversational in tone and strongly rooted in the Scriptures. The primary preacher for this service is our Pastor of Preaching and Evangelism, Rev. Heath Bradley.
Join Pulaski Heights UMC
Membership at PHUMC is something that is sacred and serious, because membership in the church is an expression of discipleship to Jesus. Jesus’ call to his first followers, “Follow me,” has been carried throughout the world and down the ages by the Spirit of Christ, and is now offered to you.
We have developed a required one-time course for all those interested in exploring or seeking membership at Pulaski Heights UMC. The class is called “Membership Matters.” This course will be offered Sundays – April 17, June 5, August 21, September 25, November 6, 2011 - immediately following the 10:30 worship service, and will last until approximately 2:30. A lunch will be provided, along with childcare.
After completing this introductory membership class, you will be invited to sign a membership covenant containing the vows of membership. You may discuss anything you like one-on-one with a pastor. Schedule a time to publicly join the church in worship.
If after going through this class you decide that membership is not for you at this time, you will receive no pressure at all to join; nor will you be put on the spot. We will love you the same and welcome you in worship and service with us in whatever ways you desire as a guest of PHUMC. Remember, membership isn’t about gaining benefits. It is about expressing a grateful and serious commitment to the Christ who has poured God’s grace out on us!
