September, 2005 Neighbors from Louisiana moved into PHUMC's gym, starting September 4. Apartments for families affected by Hurricane Katrina were created by dividers, which sectioned off living quarters for guests. Volunteers provided three meals each day plus around-the-clock supervision, childcare and other support. The joy included a birthday party for a one-year-old on September 7. The hospitality center closed after three weeks, but our church continues to support families affected by Hurricane Katrina in a variety of ways. Teenagers spend part of their 2005 Christmas vacation in Biloxi, Mississippi helping with clean-up efforts. Another trip for families and individuals is under consideration for the summer of 2006.
