Lemonade Stand

After a successful lemonade stand brought 50 cents per cup, seven-year-old Spencer Day told his mother, “Mom, I am going to give the money to Mr. Drexel tomorrow morning for breakfast.” Mr. Drexel Jordan, a member of Quapaw UMC, prepares breakfast for homeless people Sunday mornings. He spends Saturday night peeling potatoes. He makes sure each Sunday morning breakfast is a hot meal with some fruit. Breakfast often includes scrambled eggs, biscuits and sausage gravy. Mr. Drexel pays for this out of his own pocket.

One Sunday in May, Spencer proudly presented his cash to Mr. Drexel, who gave Spencer a big hug and told Spencer that $9 would feed 25 people.

“I was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude” said Betsy Day. “I know that we have helped shape my son’s heart, but I give most of the credit to the church, Sunday School and God. Thank you, church, for your kind and loving hearts.”
