classes will be available in the church reception area Sundays - August 19, 26
and Sept. 9 and on weekdays from Rev. Harriett Akins-Banman.
___ The Bible from
Scratch: Old Testament. Sundays 4 to 5 p.m., Sept. 9 - Oct. 21, led by Sarah
Clem and Christian Harris. A study for those new to Bible study or wanting a
refresher course on how to study the Bible and get the most from it. Learn
Bible study skills while learning about the richness of the Old Testament.
___ Christian Believer.
Sundays 3 to 5 p.m., Sept. 9 - Feb. 24, led by Annadell & Fred Fowler, Rev.
Jeff Hampton. A study of the traditions and beliefs of the church
___Disciple I. Sundays,
4 to 6 p.m., starting Sept. 9, led by Ryan Owsley. A comprehensive overview of
the Bible, this study uses video of top scholars explaining Biblical passages
and concepts, discussion and class members’ insights from daily readings and
reflections. Participants learn Bible
study tools and use Bible study resources.
___ Disciple II
.Thursdays, 6 to 8 p.m., starting Sept. 13, led by Sylvia Borchert. An in-depth
study of Genesis, Exodus, Luke and Acts
___ Disciple IV.
Tuesdays, 6 to 8 p.m., starting Sept. 11, led by Rev. Lynn & Wayne
Lindsey (a class for participants who
started the study last year) Continuation of the study of Jesus and the
Gospels.
___ CREDO. Sundays 9:15
to 10:15 a.m., Sept. 9 - 30, led by Rev. Harriett Akins-Banman, staff and
church members. A class designed for
visitors, new members and all who are interested in learning more about the
beliefs of the United Methodist Church and the ministries of Pulaski Heights
United Methodist Church. (Credo is
offered in the months of November, January, March, May, July, September)
___Praise the God of
Grace: The Theology of Charles Wesley. Sundays 4:30 to 6 p.m., Sept. 30 - Oct.
21, led by Karen Crutchfield. A study of the life, faith, theology and times of
Charles Wesley that influenced the thousands of hymns he wrote and their lasting impact on the Methodist
movement.
___ Theologians Under
Hitler. Sundays 4:30 to 6 p.m., Oct. 7 - 28 led by Rev. Roy Smith. A study
using video and a student’s book on the rise of Hitler’s power, the theologians that were influenced
by him, and the impact of that period of
history on Christian theology.
___Family Bible Study
for children grades 3 - 5 with their grown-ups. Sundays 3:15 to 4 p.m., Nov. 4
- 18, led by Rev. Harriett Akins-Banman
& Mike Banman. Children and their grown-ups will become better acquainted
with their Bibles and experience studying together so as to continue the study
in their family life.
___ Remembering the
Bible. Mondays, 6:30 to 8 p.m., Sept. 10 - Nov. 26, created and led by Tyler
Thompson. The emphasis of this study is to encourage the remembering of a
finite set of facts about the Bible, along with the memorization of a number of
Bible verses that participants choose for themselves. This study will instill a familiarity with scripture to the
participants with a degree of self-confidence in claiming the Bible as
belonging and speaking to them.
___Crisis of Conscience:
Arkansas Methodists and the Civil Rights Struggle. Tuesdays, Sept. 11 - 25,
6:30 to 8 p.m., led by Bishop Ken Hicks. A study and discussion of the book by
the same title by James T. Clemons.
___ Introduction to the
Labyrinth. Tuesdays, Oct. 16 - 30, 6:30 p.m., led by Rev. Harriett
Akins-Banman. Learn about the labyrinth and how to use it as a prayer tool in
your life.
___ChristCare Leader’s
Training. Sundays, Sept. 9 - Oct. 14, 12 noon to 1:30 p.m., led by Rev.
Harriett Akins-Banman and Cindy Burns. Train to become a ChristCare
leader! ChristCare is a small group
ministry where groups meet monthly to engage in Bible study, fellowship,
worship and plan involvement in a service project of their choosing. Leaders may form a group around a particular
topic of interest or demographic group.
___Stephen Ministry
Training. Sept. 11, 6:30 to 9 p.m., 20 sessions. Contact Elizabeth Holley, training
coordinator, at 223-8365. Stephen Ministry is a program that equips lay persons
to provide Christian one-to-one care to those who are experiencing all kinds of
life circumstances, both in our congregation and community. Stephen Ministers
share their love for God with others by reaching out, and listening.
___Men Alive presents
Men’s Fraternity: The Quest for the Authentic Man. Wednesdays, beginning Sept.
12. Gathering time is 5:45 a.m. with the lesson beginning at 6 a.m. Contact

___Living
Fully, Dying Well. Sundays, Oct. 7 - Nov. 11, 3 to 4:30 p.m., led by Sandy
Smith. This 6-week program helps participants of all ages live in the moment
while making plans for the future. The
course covers biblical and social perspectives on aging, making the most of
life, practical legal and medical decisions, what it means to live more fully.
